DeGrazia

Project Description

This home has some of the more traditional Santa Fe style design features. Pueblo Moreno Saltillo tile floors, Saguaro ribbed ceilings, and hand hewn wood columns, beams and corbels all lend an authenticity to this homes Santa Fe roots. The home was "shoehorned" on to a narrow ridge and spans from building setback to building setback.

A linear "toothed" floor plan takes advantage of both mountain and city views from every room. Thick wall openings at the garage doors were custom enhanced with rough sawn wood beams which give a massive look to the base of the 2 story element.

LJ McCreary first met the owner at a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) show in Las Vegas. LJ and the owner talked on the phone and found they were both attending the show, so they decided to meet each other there. "Usually I meet with folks on their building site first", says LJ. "It gives us a chance to talk about, and get a good sense of the project scope and of each other". The chemistry or fit of the builder and client is a crucial part of the project. They end up being together for at least 2 years during a very exciting and sometimes emotional time. Meeting at the NAHB show accomplished one very important aspect of the custom building process…..getting to know each other.

The owner, a land planner and developer from Chicago interviewed 17 custom home builders before honoring McCreary Homes with the project. "We became friends during the project" LJ says, and after 12 years "I stopped by and helped the owner hang a pot rack in the kitchen".
